Written and illustrated by Daisuke Ashihara, the beloved sci-fi manga World Trigger began serialization in 2013. The manga was initially published in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine but transitioned to Jump SQ on a monthly schedule following its return from a two-year-long hiatus in 2018. On the other hand, the anime concluded its third season in January 2022, and after waiting for almost four years, what awaited fans wasn’t a Season 4 announcement, but a surprise reboot. The news took the fandom by surprise as many expressed excitement over a whole new manga adaptation, as they expected the studio would fix the issues in the anime, which debuted over a decade ago. However, while the reboot will take a while, the manga is currently ongoing.
Following its return from an indefinite hiatus, the creator occasionally takes breaks due to health issues. Since the manga is on a monthly schedule, fans will have to wait at least two months for a new chapter. The official X handle of the manga confirmed that World Trigger will be absent from the magazine’s special extra-large August issue, scheduled for July 3rd, 2026. However, the hiatus isn’t long since the series will return on August 4th with a new chapter.
What Is World Trigger About?

The story is set in a fictional Mikado City, where a mysterious gate to another world opened out of nowhere. The terrifying invaders from another dimension, called neighbors, caused nothing but destruction. What’s worse is that their technology is highly advanced, rendering modern weapons useless against them.
While the city was on the brink of destruction, a mysterious group from the Border Defense Agency appeared four years ago and protected the city. The gate is still open to this day, but the city is bustling more than ever, thanks to people’s faith in its heroes. However, things take a drastic turn when Yuuma Kuga appears as one of the Border’s trainees, who is hiding a major secret about his identity.
World Trigger’s Anime Reboot Might Be Limited to Season 1

Despite having stellar worldbuilding and a captivating storyline, the series is not considered a mainstream hit, likely because of the subpar quality of anime adaptation and even hiatuses caused by the author’s health. According to an update from the official X handle of the anime, the reboot will remake the first season entirely, adapting the manga up until the B-Rank Wars Arc, meaning a total of 120 chapters.
This means that the reboot project is limited only to the first season, as the overall anime won’t receive a remake. As of the third season, the anime has almost adapted the entire second part of the B-Rank Wars Arc, leaving the Away Mission Test Arc to be adapted next. The exciting arc is divided into two parts and is considered one of the best arcs in the manga so far. Over the years, the manga has accumulated enough chapters for the studio to work on another season, but Season 4 might be pushed back due to the reboot.
