Marvel Studios Reveals First Look At MCU’s Latverian Witch and X-Men Sentinel at Comic-Con

Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be one of, if not the biggest, events of the year, and the hype only ramped up tenfold after the first trailer dropped. The trailer provided fans with the first glimpses of several long-awaited interactions, and many are hoping that Marvel’s Hall H panel will have even more surprises. Marvel didn’t wait for the panel to reveal a surprise or two though, as they revealed the first looks at the MCU’s Latverian Witch and X-Men hunting Sentinels, and you can check out the first photos below.

During San Diego Comic-Con’s preview night, ComicBook had the chance to check out the Marvel booth, which contained several of the costumes being used in Avengers: Doomsday. While there were several costumes on display, there was one that hadn’t previously been seen in the Latverian Witch, though it does clearly evoke the look of Doctor Doom. The other big reveal was a Sentinel head, and it very much evokes the feel of the classic Sentinels from the comics and the ’97 X-Men animated series. You can check out the photos and videos below.

Who Is Avengers: Doomsday’s Latverian Witch?

There are already a host of questions about the identity of the Latverian Witch, and two possibilities quickly come to mind. One of the more popular theories is already linking the Latverian Witch to Scarlet Witch, with some theorizing that this is an alternate-universe version of Scarlet Witch who works with Doom in his reality.

The clear magical stylings of the armor and symbols are part of the reason for the connections, though much of it also comes from a want to see Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch make an MCU return after her apparent death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It would certainly be an interesting way to bring her back into the fold though, especially alongside a version of Doom who already looks like our world’s Tony Stark.

The other possibility that might work is that this is the armor of Doom’s mother, Cynthia von Doom. This could have been her armor, and the magical elements still make sense given that she was bestowed magical powers after making a deal with Mephisto. There’s a whole story that plays out later in the comics where Doom attempts to rescue her soul from Mephisto’s realm, and he actually manages to do so with the help of Doctor Strange. If elements of that story are used here, the Latverian Witch could provide the film a way to explore that in some fashion.

All of that’s conjecture, of course, but we’ll all find out when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18th.
