6 Great Anime Crunchyroll Removed in July That You Can’t Stream Anywhere Legally Now
Crunchyroll was officially launched in 2017, and since then, streaming anime across the globe has never been easier. The streaming service has risen through the ranks to become the largest global platform for anime. This also means that a large number of series and films can be found on Crunchyroll, including older classics and the new ones that are being released every week. Each quarter, the streaming platform releases a new list of anime lineups, which includes dozens of series. It’s only natural that a large number of series end up on this platform, which is why anime fans rely on it to search for and watch more shows. However, in July 2026, the platform quietly removed more incredible anime series without any announcement, as usual. While it’s not rare for Crunchyroll to secretly remove beloved series, July was one of the worst months for fans since the platform removed six anime without notice.
The worst part is that there are no other platforms where you can stream them legally now. Since Crunchyroll didn’t make an announcement, there’s no confirmation as to why they removed these shows. The most likely reason could be licensing issues or lower viewership. While all six of these series are critically acclaimed, they are also underrated and were released several years ago, so it’s all the more difficult to attract new viewers. This is why it’s unclear if or when these series will return.

Black Lagoon remains one of the most iconic action anime ever, even if it’s been dwindling in popularity over the years since its initial release. The anime premiered in 2006 and had an OVA mini-series, titled Roberta’s Blood Trail, released after it reached its conclusion. While the series never released a sequel, it’s a masterpiece on its own. The anime doesn’t skimp on the gore or the brutality that its setting lends to, and is one of the rare anime series that doesn’t feel overly dark for the sake of being edgy.
The story centers around the Lagoon Company, a band of mercenaries for hire, operating out of the crime-ridden city of Roanapur. There’s an intriguing cast of characters entrenched in the city’s lifestyle, with warring factions and opposing sides constantly causing chaos. The protagonist, Revy, is one of the most iconic female characters of all time, known for impeccable marksmanship.
5) Blood Blockade Battlefront
Blood Blockade Battlefront is an acclaimed action series that premiered in 2015 and released a second season in 2017. It’s one of the most unique shows, praised for its comedic, quirky storyline, captivating character roster, and unique animation style. While the story is saturated with dark themes and grim arcs, it has a refreshing take on how it portrays these themes with comedy understones. The story takes place in a world where a portal opened up, creating a link between the demon realm and the human world.
Leonardo Watch, a photographer, gains the All-Seeing Eyes that allow him to analyze, notice, and observe far more than the average person. Thanks to his unique ability, he was recruited into Libra, a vigilante group that tasks itself with protecting the city from the supernatural creatures plaguing the streets as a result of the merging worlds. As the story continues, Leonardo and the other members of Libra fight to protect humanity from the numerous threats presented, such as vampires, demons, and a dangerous group called The Thirteen Kings.
4) Rokka: Brave of the Six Flowers
This is a rather underrated entry on the list, but the story is rather unique for an action fantasy. The anime never released a second season, and it might not return after the sudden removal from the platform. The story focuses on an ancient legend, with the revival of the Demon God, six heroes dubbed the Braves of the Six Flowers. These heroes will be chosen by the Goddess of Fate, granting them power to rise up against the fiends attempting to turn the world into a living hell.
Adlet Mayer, self-proclaimed Strongest Man in the World, becomes one of the chosen ones. The story continues as he embarks on a destined journey to fight the Demon God and meets up with the fellow heroes. However, things take a drastic turn when seven heroes are present instead of six, leading everyone to believe Adlet is a fraud. Now he must do everything he can to find the true imposter and fulfill his destiny of defeating the Demon God.
3) Orange
Even after more than a decade since its premiere, this time travel drama gets praise for its exceptional story and unique themes. While not a mainstream hit, the anime always had a dedicated fanbase, even if it’s been reduced over the past few years. The story centers around Naho Takamiya, whose first day of her sophomore year of high school takes a strange turn. She wakes up late and finds a mysterious letter addressed to her. However, she never expected that the letter was from herself 10 years in the future.
Although she is initially skeptical of the note, after witnessing several events described to take place, she realizes the letter really is from her 26-year-old self. The letter details Naho’s future full of regrets and hopes her younger self can correct the mistakes that were made in the past. With the knowledge of the future in her hands, she carefully makes decisions on what to do next in her life.
2) Grimgar, Ashes and Illusions
This underrated isekai is yet another series that never released a second season. It centers around a group of strangers who wake up in a mysterious fantasy world with no memories of their past lives. Unlike most isekai shows where the reincarnated or transmigrated characters adapt to their surroundings quickly, this anime doesn’t shy away from showing the brutal reality of being powerless and unprepared.
It’s a matter of survival for them as they’re only ordinary people thrust into a dangerous world where they must fight monsters for food and money. Their struggles are visceral and slow-paced, emphasizing the weight of every decision while they try to come out of this conundrum alive. The lack of overpowered characters and the fear of death makes the story deeply human, as the group relies on teamwork, trial and error, and bonds to survive.
1) Barakamon
Barakamon is often considered one of the best slice-of-life anime of all time. Even without getting a sequel, the anime is nothing less than a masterpiece perfect for the summer season. This heartwarming story of redemption and self-discovery takes place on a quiet, small island where Sei Handa, a renowned calligrapher, has recently moved after hitting an elderly curator of a calligraphy exhibition. His father sends him to a remote island to help him clear his head and realize his mistake.
Although he initially has a hard time adapting to the countryside lifestyle, he blends right in thanks to the friendly neighbors and the notorious young girl named Naru Kotoishi. Beneath the absurd comedy, this beautiful story focuses on themes of personal growth and self-discovery. We follow the protagonist as he finds joy in simplicity and forming new connections.
