Peacemaker Season 1 doesn’t pull any punches. After getting out of jail, Christopher Smith has to try to fend off an alien invasion, as well as his vengeful father, who blames him for the death of his brother, Keith. Peacemaker wins the battle, but it’s unclear whether he has a shot at winning the war, as the ghost of his dad is standing beside him in the Season 1 finale. Fortunately, there isn’t a haunting in Evergreen when the show’s sophomore outing kicks off. Things are actually looking up for Chris for a bit. However, in typical James Gunn fashion, the story takes a dark turn.
Despite Gunn’s projects having a lot of whimsy, they can hit like a freight train, which means some levity is in order. Peacemaker Season 2 turns down the heat with its introduction, featuring all the characters dancing in a silly way to Foxy Shazam’s “Oh Lord.” The Internet loves every bit of the sequence, so much so that it’s cutting it together with iconic scenes from other TV shows and movies. Here are five movies and TV scenes made way better with the Peacemaker intro.
5) The Mandalorian
Like Peacemaker, Din Djarin always finds himself in some ridiculous situations in The Mandalorian. Season 2 of the Disney+ show sends the titular bounty hunter to face off against a Krayt dragon, a giant beast terrorizing the locals on Tatooine. In one particularly nasty scene, the dragon sprays acid all over a group of Tusken Raiders, killing them instantly. One X user thought it was the perfect place to insert the Peacemaker intro, and they were right.
4) The Dark Knight
Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy doesn’t feature any magical birds or alternate universes. However, there are still more than a few dark moments, such as when Rachel Dawes dies at the hands of The Joker as Batman saves Harvey Dent from the same fate. The Peacemaker intro cuts the tension by playing Dent’s transformation into the villain Two-Face for laughs.
3) Breaking Bad
Walter White isn’t always a criminal mastermind. At the start of Breaking Bad, he’s just making it up as he goes along, including when he has to dispose of a body. Walter and his partner, Jesse Pinkman, can only watch as the disintegrating corpse falls through the floor, causing about 100 more problems for the drug-making duo. “Oh Lord” fits the mood perfectly, as it highlights the absurdity of the situation.
2) Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Pixar is the king of weaving emotional moments into kids’ movies, but they’re not the only studio trying. Paramount makes the tissues come out during the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, when Doctor Eggman gives his life to save the world from catastrophe. With the Peacemaker intro song playing in the background, the scene goes from devastating to triumphant.
1) The Other Guys
Sometimes, it’s obvious from a movie’s opening moments that it’s going to be a winner. The Other Guys certainly fits into that category, as it spends its first few minutes focusing on a pair of cops, played by Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson. The duo jumps off a roof, believing it will help them catch their perp, only to fall to their deaths. If the Peacemaker intro played after this hilarious scene in the theaters, the laughs wouldn’t have stopped until the credits rolled.
Peacemaker Season 2 is streaming on HBO Max.
