A Steam game that normally requires a purchase is available to download and keep for free for one week only. In other words, the new Steam deal will expire on September 13. Those on Steam Deck interested in the offer should know that the PC game is not Steam Deck Verified, but it is listed as “Playable,” which means the Steam game is functional on Steam Deck, but may require some extra effort to interact with and configure.
The new free Steam game is called Broilers, a 2022 release from Bloxhill. As its $4.99 price point suggests, Broilers is a humble experience, but apparently a decent one. Right now, the PC game has a “Positive” rating thanks to an 83% approval rating. And this isn’t inflated by it being free. In fact, the negative reviews the PC game has on Steam have come since it was made free. Before that, it had positive reviews only.
About the Game
Broilers is pitched as a turn-based game that, on the surface level, looks like chess, but it’s nothing like chess. Rather, the game is all about species breeding with a bit of tower defense mixed in. According to user reviews, the PC game is difficult and obtuse at times.
“This game is actually so cool. I love the drawings and the whole idea of the game,” reads one of the Steam user reviews. Another review adds: “The soundtrack for this game made me cry, I just ended up sitting in the lobby and listening to it.”
As some other user reviews point out, Broilers is an online game, which can be problematic as you are relying on others playing it when you are playing it, and the game doesn’t have many players. As a result, this is probably going to be the best time to ever check it out, as it being free will no doubt inject it with some new players, at least for a little bit.
If this free Steam download doesn’t tickle your fancy, there is another free Steam game that recently hit over 200,000 concurrent players, making it one of the most-played Steam games of summer 2025.
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think. Will you be checking out this free Steam game, or are you too busy playing new releases like Hollow Knight: Silksong and Metal Gear Solid Delta?
