Warning: This article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen manga! The highly anticipated Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 released its first look this month during MAPPA’s 15th anniversary event. The anime is currently in the middle of its Culling Game Arc, which focuses on a deadly battle royale orchestrated by Kenajku. The sorcerers didn’t have any time to take a breather after the horrific Shibuya Incident since the aftermath was far too destructive. The Jujutsu society collapsed completely, and without Satoru Gojo to keep the elders in check, Yuji Itadori once again becomes a target. Kenjaku brought along some terrifying villains during the Shibuya Incident, but Gojo alone could’ve effortlessly dealt with them. However, knowing that the strongest sorcerer of the modern era has no weakness, Kenjaku decided to use Suguru Geto as a means to catch him off guard.
The plan worked perfectly, and a moment of shock and heartbreak was all it took for Kenjaku to seal Gojo inside the Prison Realm. Things only went downhill from that point on, since it proved that the Jujutsu society was nowhere near powerful enough to deal with the threat on their own. The character was sealed during the initial phase of the Shibuya Incident Arc, and it will be years before fans can see him again. While the upcoming Season 4 will surely be a thrilling ride, fans may be disappointed if they’re hoping to see Gojo again.
Satoru Gojo Will Not Be a Part of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4

One of Kenjaku’s primary goals in the Shibuya Incident was to seal Gojo before commencing the Culling Game. He succeeds through meticulous planning, ensuring that getting Gojo out of the cursed object will prove challenging. Following Gojo’s capture, Yuji and the others head straight to help Gojo, but they get caught up in the battle. By the end of the Shibuya Incident Arc, the sorcerers didn’t figure out a way to free Gojo, and all they could do was watch Kenjaku disappear with the Prison Realm in his hands.
However, things take a massive turn in the third season, where Yuta Okkotsu and Yuki Tsukumo finally appear to lend the sorcerers a hand. Thanks to Yuki, the sorcerers met Master Tengen, who knew the way to help Gojo, but the task isn’t going to be easy. Not to mention that the Culling Game is an intense battle-heavy arc, so the sorcerers have little to no time to carry out their plans.
Since the Culling Game Arc is over right after Gojo is unsealed, the character won’t be a part of the upcoming season once again. While fans might get a glimpse at him during the season finale, Gojo will still have to take the sideline in yet another season. Not to mention that after his appearance, he only stays for a brief battle before dying, which means fans will barely get to see him for the majority of the final season as well. That said, he might appear in flashbacks, opening and ending themes, in the fourth season, even if he’s not present during the Culling Game.
How Does Gojo Get Unsealed in Jujutsu Kaisen?

Gojo gets unsealed in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 221, before the manga concludes the Culling Game Arc. It takes the students about twenty days after the Shibuya Incident to find a way to unseal him. During the third season, Yuki leads the other sorcerers to the Tomb of the Star Corridor to meet Master Tengen in hopes of getting answers to their questions. Luckily, Tengen had the Prison Realm’s back gate, whose barrier needed to be nullified in order to free Gojo. The ancient sorcerer also reveals that the easiest way to do that would have been to use the Inverted Spear of Heaven or the Black Rope.
The Inverted Spear of Heaven was a special-grade cursed object that nullifies cursed techniques. Toji Fushiguro used it in the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death Arc and almost killed Gojo with it. After killing Toji, Gojo either sealed it away or destroyed it completely to ensure no one would be able to get their hands on it. Additionally, the Black Rope is the tool Miguel used in the prequel, which was also destroyed by the strongest sorcerer of the modern era.
While both these options could’ve easily helped him escape, there is only one option left for the sorcerers. Among the many ancient sorcerers who were incarnated for the Culling Game, Angel has the ability to nullify any technique. She has already made her debut in the anime, where she is introduced as Hana Kurusu, the name of the young girl whose body is used as a vessel for the ancient sorcerer. This means all that’s left for the sorcerers is to find her and seek her aid.
