Black Ops 7 Has Cheaters Almost Immediately, Activision Gives Blunt Response

Update: Call of Duty has since responded to videos showcasing cheating happening in Black Ops 7 and noted that action has been taken against the accounts in question. It is clear that the Call of Duty team is working hard to squash any cheaters that manage to get past some of the measures that have been put in place.

The original story follows below.

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 beta has officially begun and was almost immediately infested with cheaters. Cheating in online gaming has always been an issue, but it has become really prevalent this decade. Third-party companies make special devices that allow you to modify your game and controller to cheat and of course, there are people who also make them on the software side too. The issue has become extremely noticeable in recent years due to cross-play, as PC is where cheating is the most active. It’s an unfortunate reality and one that developers are trying to combat with thorough anti-cheat.

Earlier this year, EA announced that Battlefield 6 would take advantage of a Windows feature known as Secure Boot. It requires some effort to activate, but it actually makes it much harder to cheat. While it’s not a total guarantee that there will be zero cheaters, it does make for a much better experience overall. Now, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has implemented this to limit its cheating problem and yet, somehow, the beta has already seen some cheaters in its first hours.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Beta Is Already Suffering from Cheaters

Multiple videos have surfaced online showing cheaters in Black Ops 7. These players can be seen flicking their aim rapidly to different enemies on the screen, getting alerts when someone is aiming at them, and having the ability to see others through walls. All in all, it’s not great and has left fans frustrated at this problem that seemingly doesn’t have a fool proof solution.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that Secure Boot is still limiting other cheaters from getting in, but one would hope that we still wouldn’t see them this quickly. It remains to be seen how this will impact the game when it launches, but hopefully, Treyarch and the other Call of Duty studios can efficiently prepare to combat this problem by the time Black Ops 7 releases on November 14th.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 even took things a step further by utilizing another feature known as TPM 2.0, which offers another layer of protection against cheaters. Battlefield 6 also encountered some cheaters in its beta, so this isn’t some grave failure on Call of Duty’s part. It wouldn’t be surprising if Activision released data after the beta is over to highlight how many cheaters they stopped from getting into the game entirely.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will release on November 14th. What do you think? Leave a comment below and join the conversation now in the ComicBook Forum!
