There are so many superhero franchises these days that it’s harder to find an actor who hasn’t worn a costume than one who has. But no matter whether it’s DC or Marvel, all of the high-earners who pull on spandex started somewhere else, and for some, the origin stories were unexpected. Hugh Jackman was a star of stage musicals; Superman‘s Nicholas Hoult broke through in a British teen show about drugs (mostly); and Chris Hemsworth was a daytime soap opera star. And sitcoms have spawned a lot of superhero stars, including Chris Pratt, Ryan Reynolds, and Martin Freeman.
More specifically, it feels like actors with a connection to Dunder Mifflin, weirdly, have a leg up on the competition. Despite airing its last episode in 2013, The Office is one of the most popular sitcoms in the world, and was loaded with talent. It’s hard to keep track of the number of comedy legends that got their start on the show before moving on to bigger and better things. However, it turns out that The Office was a breeding ground for another genre. Here are seven The Office actors who also play comic book characters.
7) John Krasinski

John Krasinski’s The Office character, Jim Halpert, spends most of his days slacking off, wanting to be anywhere but work. As the seasons go on, though, he starts to mature and take his life more seriously. Krasinski did the same in his personal life, becoming a major action star after The Office. Fans saw him in a new light, which led to Marvel Studios casting him as Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
6) Randall Park

One of the most iconic Jim pranks in The Office involves making Dwight think that his deskmate has been an Asian man the entire time they’ve been working together. Randall Park played the role of Asian Jim, but these days, he’s far more than a bit player. The MCU has him playing FBI Agent Jimmy Woo, who loves magic and just wants to spend some quality time with Scott Lang.
5) Idris Elba

More than a few suits come to Dunder Mifflin Scranton to mess with Michael and Co., and Idris Elba’s Charles Miner might be the worst of them. While the woman of the office can’t get over how attractive their new boss is, Michael sees him for who he really is. Fortunately, Elba gets to play a much nicer character, Heimdall, the guardian of Asgard, in the MCU.
4) Amy Adams

Before Jim and Pam Beasley are an item, Jim spends time with Katy, a handbag saleswoman, played by Amy Adams. After having her role cut in favor of other characters, Adams has had a massively successful acting career, which includes a stint in the DC Extended Universe as Lois Lane.
3) David Denman

Roy Anderson is the closest thing a sitcom can get to a villain because he keeps The Office‘s most important relationship from happening for years. He eventually shows his true colors when he attacks Jim, leading to him losing his job at the warehouse. Still having that dark aura around him, Roy’s actor, David Denman, plays Christopher Smith’s brother, Keith Smith, aka Captain Triumph, in Peacemaker Season 2.
2) James Spader

Robert California is The Office‘s biggest enigma. One moment, he seems like the smartest character on the show, and minutes later, he says something so strange that a genius couldn’t claim responsibility for it. James Spader’s role in the MCU isn’t all that different, as Ultron, despite having access to all the knowledge in the world, acts like a scorned child.
1) David Mazouz

While he’s the boss at Dunder Mifflin, Robert brings his son, Bert, to the office on Halloween. The boy and Dwight hit it off and start playing video games together. Sadly, David Mazouz’s other major role, Bruce Wayne on Gotham, doesn’t have time for games or other childish hobbies because he’s trying to clean up his hometown after losing his parents.
