Warning: This article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga! Released as a short sequel to Gege Akutami’s beloved manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is already in its final stretch as the main battles commence in recent chapters. The manga was expected to run in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine for around six months, releasing no more than three volumes. The first volume’s release date and cover image have already been revealed as anticipation around the main story’s ending grows higher. The series follows Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki, as they become Jujutsu sorcerers after joining High School. The story takes place 68 years after the Culling Game, when over 50,000 Simurians, an alien race with the same powers as Jujutsu sorcerers, arrive in Japan as refugees.
During their mission in the first chapter, the siblings meet Maru, short for Marulu Val Vol Yelvori, who is also a Simurian working with the Jujutsu sorcerers as an inspector. It doesn’t take long for them to get along with Maru despite their different standings, as they all hope for both sides to coexist peacefully. Unfortunately, negotiations with the higher-ups fall apart when one of the sorcerers fatally shoots Maru’s twin brother, Cross, forcing the Simurian leader, Dabura, to take extreme measures. As the battle continues, the manga unveils what makes Maru truly terrifying.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Shows the First Glimpse of Maru’s Powers

As both sides engage in a brutal conflict, Yuka ends up carrying the burden by agreeing to duel with Dabura, whose powers are beyond ordinary. In hopes of saving his sister, Tsurugi makes a heartbreaking decision by fighting Maru, whose powers may be too much for him to handle. Maru is the genius who managed to travel across planets in hopes of finding a new home for his people.
He is also unbelievably strong, as shown during the initial chapters when he lost control and opened his third eye. In the latest Chapter 16, he is forced to fight Tsurugi and doesn’t plan on backing down, since Maru also has to protect a lot of things. By the end of the chapter, the manga reveals that Maru’s and Cross’ techniques are Chaos and Harmony. As soon as Maru opens his third eye, his powers are increased by a huge margin, which might spell trouble for Tsurugo.
In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, twins, especially identical twins, share the same womb and as such are treated as a single entity. In Maki and Mai’s case, the former had a Heavenly Restricted body while the latter had a useful but weak Cursed Technique. Maki was only able to unleash her true powers when Mai died. Modulo has yet to fully explain how Maru’s powers work and if his situation is similar to the Zenin sisters.
