Moriarty the Patriot

Written by Ryosuke Takeuchi and illustrated by Hikaru Miyoshi, Jump SQ’s Moriarty the Patriot released its anime adaptation in 2020, and the series concluded with its second part in 2021. The unresolved questions in the ending were later revealed in the manga, which is still ongoing. The series has never announced anything about an anime sequel, even though four years have passed. While the anime itself is said to have been concluded, the manga has a lot of chapters left to adapt, which take place after the time leap. The anime adapts 56 chapters of the manga, although it deviates from the original storyline.

In December 2022, the manga ended its first part with Chapter 76, concluding the main storyline, and resumed serialization in December 2024. The series has a total of 82 chapters, which barely meet the requirements to adapt a 12 or 13-episode season. However, considering the show’s ratings and popularity (though it wasn’t groundbreaking), it wouldn’t be surprising if the anime is getting a sequel, or better yet, a reboot that faithfully adapts the original version. While there have been no such announcements about Moriarty the Patriot’s anime, we have more than enough reason to believe that will be the case, after looking at the Jump Festa 2026 Stage List.

It’s finally that time of the year when anime and manga fans from all over the world start looking out for Jump Festa, one of the biggest annual conventions. The two-day event is held by Shueisha, particularly focusing on Shonen magazines such as Weekly Shonen Jump, Jump Square, V Jump, Saikyo Jump, and the online platform Shonen Jump+, attracting over 100,000 people each year.

Jump Festa 2026 has an amazing list of lineup, including One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, and more. Among these series, Moriarty the Patriot will also take the stage and announce upcoming projects. Since most of the announcements are related to anime adaptations, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that’s why the series was listed there.

What Is the Plot of Moriarty the Patriot?

The story is set in the late 19th century, when the British Empire became a global power. The strict class stratification gave the corrupt noble the power to rule over commoners. During the era of chaos, Albert Moriarty, the first son of Earl Moriarty, adopts two orphans into the family, Louis and his unnamed brother. Despite being a noble himself, Albert shares the same sentiment about the Upper Class as the brothers.

The trio plots the downfall of Albert’s biological family and has Louis’s unnamed brother assume the identity of the former’s younger brother, William James Moriarty. They begin to work towards their goal to destroy the awful class system, regardless of how many times they have to get their hands dirty.

Using his intellect and new identity, William begins working as a crime consultant from the shadows to fight against the injustices caused by the nobles. However, their carefully concocted plans against the nobles didn’t go unnoticed by Sherlock Holmes, a genius but carefree consulting detective. The series is a reimagined version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel series, Sherlock Holmes, focusing on the main antagonist’s perspective.

What Happens at the End of Moriarty the Patriot Part 2?

During their confrontation in the Final Problem, William jumps off the bridge, believing his death is necessary to create the ideal world he envisioned. However, Sherlock also jumps in order to save him, but the two went missing after the incident. Although they were presumed dead by the public, they somehow managed to survive the fall. Louis is left in charge of the Moriarty House while Albert takes all the blame for their past crimes.

As the brothers take different paths in life, the anime concludes with Sherlock sitting in a bar located in a small countryside, explaining he’s looking for a friend while talking about William. The episode ends with William sitting a few seats away from Sherlock and saying, “Catch Me If You Can.” Part 2 finale could hardly be considered a conclusion since it leaves a lot of unresolved plotlines. The manga continues the story in the Reunion Arc after a three-year time-skip.
