Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal ended its television run a decade ago, but for its devoted followers, the story never truly concluded. The series established itself as a singular work of art, celebrated for its macabre visual poetry and its daring psychological exploration of its central characters. It redefined Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) and Will Graham (Hugh Dancy), transforming their established cat-and-mouse dynamic into something far more complex and intimate. Hannibal’s cancellation after three seasons left fans with an ambiguous finale and a persistent hunger for a proper continuation. For ten years, that hope has been a constant presence online, with the “Fannibal” community eagerly awaiting any sign that Fuller and his cast might return to the world of elegant horror they so masterfully constructed.
“My dream project is to do a limited series of Silence of the Lambs with Mads and Zendaya as Clarice Starling,” Fuller revealed in a recent interview with ScreenRant, unveiling his specific vision for a revival that would adapt a classic storyline. “If I could put anything out into the universe, I would put that into the universe.” Securing an actress with the profile of Zendaya, celebrated for her fan-favorite roles as MJ in Marvel’s Spider-Man trilogy and the warrior Chani in the Dune films, would bring a massive new audience to the beloved cult series.
Fuller’s idea provides a direct narrative path forward from the show’s conclusion. The series finale, “The Wrath of the Lamb,” ended with a wounded Will and Hannibal embracing as they fell from a cliffside into the sea after killing Francis Dolarhyde (Richard Armitage). A cryptic post-credits scene showing Hannibal’s psychiatrist, Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson), waiting at a lavishly set table before carving into her own leg, heavily implied that Hannibal had survived. This open-ended finale allows for the necessary time jump to a point where an imprisoned Hannibal could encounter a young Clarice Starling, seamlessly setting the stage for The Silence of the Lambs narrative.
Bryan Fuller and Mads Mikkelsen Are Reuniting For Another Project

While a Hannibal revival remains a dream, the creative partnership between its creator and star is set to continue on the big screen. Fuller and Mikkelsen are collaborating on the upcoming horror film Dust Bunny, which marks Fuller’s debut as a feature film director. The movie offers fans a chance to see the duo’s unique creative energy at work in a new context while they wait for any potential return to the Hannibal universe.
In Dust Bunny, Mikkelsen portrays an enigmatic hitman who is hired by his ten-year-old neighbor, Aurora (Sophie Sloan). The young girl is convinced that a monster living under her bed is responsible for the death of her family and wants the assassin to hunt it down. The hitman accepts the job, believing the girl’s family was caught in the crossfire of an attack meant for him. This premise launches them into a surreal world of stylized violence where the line between real-world threats and supernatural monsters is intentionally blurred. The film, co-produced by the team behind the John Wick movies, also stars Sigourney Weaver and promises a dark fairytale tone that aligns with Fuller’s distinctive visual and narrative sensibilities.
Dust Bunny is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 5, 2025.
