The anime and manga industry is growing ever so rapidly across the globe, which also means that the older series eventually get forgotten over time, especially if they don’t keep returning with new releases. However, there’s always an exception to the rule, especially if a story is well-received by fans. One such example is Ai Yazawa’s acclaimed series, Nana, which began serialization on Shueisha’s Shojo and Josei magazine, Cookie, in 2000. The manga eventually became known as one of the most iconic Shojo of all time. Yazawa earned worldwide recognition thanks to the series, and it’s still well-loved even though the manga hasn’t returned from its indefinite hiatus since 2009.
Even before Nana, Yazawa was known as one of the most acclaimed Shojo creators of all time, thanks to her several classic works such as Neighborhood Story, Paradise Kiss, and more. Unfortunately, her thriving career came to a halt due to her health issues, as she hasn’t released a new story since 2009 or even completed her most famous work. Ever since her announcement in 2025, fans have been waiting patiently for Nana‘s return. The manga is already in its final phases, and the creator promises to eventually conclude it. While fans await more updates on the iconic series, one of Yazawa’s earliest works is getting its first-ever English release.
I’m No Angel By Nana Creator Confirms Its English Debut in June 2026
The manga was originally serialized in Shueisha’s Shojo manga magazine Ribon from 1991 to 1994. All chapters of the manga were later compiled into eight volumes and were only released in Japan. It’s been almost 35 years since the manga’s debut, and Viz Media is finally releasing the English translation. So far, only the release date of the first volume has been confirmed.
The manga will be out on June 2nd, 2026, and the links to pre-order the physical and digital copies are available on the official website of Viz Media. In order to hype up the series’ English debut, the official YouTube channel of Viz Media also shared a 15-second trailer that briefly discusses the premise of the story.
What Is I’m No Angel About?

This romance drama centers around Midori Saejima, a first-year high school student at Hijiro Gakuen. She is a happy-go-lucky girl with a likeable personality and a pretty face, which earned her the nickname “angel.” After being persuaded by her friends to run for student council, she notices that Akira Sudo, the boy she is attracted to, is also running for the council.
While Akira is elected as the President, Midori becomes the Vice-President and works alongside him for the council. Midori thought it was finally her chance to be closer to him, and while they did get along, Akira shared a secret that was more than she could handle. Even before Midori’s love life began, she realized that the boy was attracted to someone else since she was in middle school.
