One of the most hyped collaborations in Fortnite this year has been Daft Punk. This week, new skins (with multiple colors and variations) based on the duo debuted in the Shop in anticipation of a bigger event happening this weekend. That event is the Daft Punk Experience — an immersive mode that explores several songs from Daft Punk’s discography. Unfortunately, though, Epic Games has made it quite clear that the band is not getting back together. But they have something cool to offer players.
On Saturday, September 27th, anyone who logs into Fortnite and participates in the Daft Punk Experience in its first hour, between 2pm and 3pm ET, will receive the Daft Punk Waveform Walkers for free, regardless if they have the battle pass or not. The Waveform Walkers are kicks (or shoes), which makes them a rare item in Fortnite, seeing as Epic Games almost never gives away shoes for free, aside from the initial batch of Nike Air Jordans back in 2024 when they first added kicks to the Locker.

Because this is a live event, it’s highly recommended that players log in early and join the pre-lobby at least 30 minutes ahead of time in order to guarantee a spot. Still, having the whole hour to join and experience the event means everyone should have an opportunity to take part in it. But note that while you may go through the Daft Punk Experience and be eligible to receive the Waveform Walkers for free, the shoes won’t show up in your Locker until after a week.
Epic Games has always given away free items like pickaxes and random emotes during seasonal events or major experiences, such as this one — but it’s typically rare to receive anything of this high value without requiring some sort of buy-in, like purchasing the battle pass. So far this season, the biggest thing that’s “free” is the Halo skin, which players can get if they either buy the battle pass or reach level 100 without it.
Last year, Fortnite‘s biggest music experience was the Metallica concert in June, in which people could watch and listen to Metallica play some of their songs and later get access to their themed festival pass. In that, there were free and premium tiers (which came with their own set of songs, emotes, and more), so while Fortnite isn’t doing that this time with Daft Punk, at least they’re giving away kicks away for free. It’s been a while since there was a festival pass like that; perhaps the Daft Punk collaboration will be short-lived seeing as Halloween is right around the corner.
