WWE Fans Loudly Boo SmackDown’s Botched Ending

It’s always disappointing when things don’t go according to plan, and the same goes for a match in the ring. There are plenty of times where things go sideways a bit in a WWE match, though more often than not, superstars and referees are able to adapt on the fly and get things moving again without many noticing. That was unfortunately not the case for tonight’s main event of SmackDown, as the botch to the finish was so clear (and delayed) that the live crowd started booing, and booing loudly at that.

The main event of tonight’s WWE SmackDown was a much-anticipated match between Tiffany Stratton, Nia Jax, and Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Championship, and all three have faced each other at various times, so it had the potential to be a great match. Things didn’t go as smoothly as usual, though, with the problems really culminating with the finish.

Ending Gone Wrong

Cargill had been busted open (bloodied) but still hit a samoan drop on Jax using the steel steps. Cargill would try to steal the match right there, but Stratton ran in and was able to break up the pin. Stratton went one step further though and tried to steal Cargill’s pin for the win, and as you can see in the video above, she actually managed to do just that.

Stratton pins Jax, and then the 3-count starts, but as the referee goes to hit 3, Jax never kicks out. Evidently, the match wasn’t supposed to end here, so the referee then brings her hand away from the mat quickly and flashes up the 2-count sign, but the camera is right on all three and shows Jax never kicking out clear as day.

As the crowd starts to realize what’s happening, you can start to hear the chorus of boos ring out, and it doesn’t help that everyone in the ring clearly starts to talk to each other and figure out a way to pivot and move forward. Thankfully, it wouldn’t last much longer, as Stratton would then hit Jax with the Prettiest Moonsault Ever to get the pin and the win officially.

These things are never fun, especially in a big spot like this, but they happen, and the story moves forward. With the win tonight, Stratton moves on to face WWE Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer at Crown Jewel. As for Cargill and Jax, we’ll have to wait and see what they move to next, as it’s not likely for them to get another shot at the Title right away, given that Cargill has already faced Stratton a few times for it, and so has Jax.
