One of Gerard Butler’s Best Action Films Is a Surprise Streaming Hit (And You Can Watch It For Free)

It’s a good time to be an action fan. Right now, the genre has been making waves on streaming platforms with some surprising movies climbing up the charts. One example is Ice Road: Vengeance, the sequel to Liam Neeson’s 2021 film The Ice Road. The sequel quietly appeared on Netflix earlier this month and quickly started dominating the top 10. But it isn’t just that unexpected sequel that’s getting audiences to tune in. Another sequel — in this case, the third film in a franchise — has fans settling in for plenty of pulse pounding action and intrigue and this time, they can watch it for free.

Released in 2019, Angel Has Fallen is the third film in the Has Fallen franchise, following 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen and 2016’s London Has Fallen. The film, which stars Gerard Butler along with Morgan Freeman, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tim Blake Nelson, and the late great Lance Riddick, is currently streaming for free on Tubi and has surprisingly cracked the streamer’s top 10.

In Angel Has Fallen, Butler’s Secret Service agent Mike Banning must race against time to clear his name after h e’s been framed for a drone attack on the President of the United States, Allan Trumbull (Freeman). While the film was met with mixed reviews when it was released six years ago, it was a solid box office success, bringing in $146 million worldwide. It’s an action-packed thrill ride of a film, and while it’s trending on Tubi, that’s actually not the only place viewers can stream it for free. It’s also available on Pluto and The Roku Channel.

Angel Has Fallen’s Streaming Success Could Bode Well For Future Installments

While it was announced shortly after Angel Has Fallen’s release that there were plans for a fourth, fifth, and sixth film in the franchise as well as television spin offs and in 2020 it was announced that the fourth film, Night Has Fallen, was in development with Butler set to return, there hasn’t been a ton of updates since. However, with Angel Has Fallen proving to be a streaming hit, it shows that there is still interest in Mike Banning’s story and that the reliable formula fans have come to expect from the franchise (as well as Butler’s action movies more broadly) continues to deliver. It could be the kind of success that is needed to help push future installments forward and result in audiences getting more of the political intrigue action they crave.

Angel Has Fallen is now streaming for free on Tubi.
