A new report about Resident Evil Requiem is going to be good news for some Resident Evil fans, but for others, it’s causing some worry. The next Resident Evil game, and the first mainline installment since Resident Evil Village, is set to release worldwide on February 27, 2026, via PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. This implies it is current-gen only. However, it seems Capcom may be purposefully withholding this information to give that illusion.
According to a new report from the well-known Resident Evil insider, Dusk Golem, Resident Evil Requiem is also in development for Nintendo Switch 2. This isn’t that surprising, especially considering Resident Evil Village came to Nintendo Switch when it released a few years ago. What’s more surprising is that it’s also apparently coming to PS, a console that will be 13 years old when Resident Evil Requiem releases. Now, Resident Evil Village also came to PS4 when it released in 2021, but the PS5 was newer in 2021, and it was more common for games to come to PS4 in 2021. In fact, it was the norm. In 2025, let alone 2026, this is not the norm anymore, so if Resident Evil Requiem comes to PS4 next year, it would be reasonable to categorize this as unexpected.
What’s the Issue?
For those still on PS4, which there are many — the console still has millions of monthly users — this is great news. However, many fans are worried about what this means for the ambition of the game. Of course, game developers are used to scaling the technical parts of games across various platforms of varying power. This is not an issue; however, from a game design perspective, it is. If Resident Evil Requiem is coming to PS4, that means Capom had to account for its limitations in every aspect of its design. This doesn’t automatically and inherently mean the game was held back in this regard, but it’s certainly possible, hence the concern from fans.
“Kinda sucks they’re still holding what’s possible down so that they release on outdated tech,” writes one Resident Evil fan of the news. Another fan adds: “So what makes this ‘the most ambitious Resident Evil yet’ if it’s also able to run on PS4 and Switch 2?”
Of course, all of this concern may be for nothing because this is not official information, and thus it may not be true. It’s also possible it could be true, but it changes over time. All of this is to say, take everything here with a grain of salt. Meanwhile, and as always, leave a comment below and join the conversation now in the ComicBook Forum. Is there now a reason to be concerned about Resident Evil Requiem, or has Capcom shown enough for you not to be worried?
