A well-known Marvel leaker has revealed new details on PlayStation’s leaked Marvel’s Venom game for PS5. Back in 2023, a massive Insomniac Games leak revealed unannounced Marvel games in the works at the Marvel’s Spider-Man studio. Included in this leak was a standalone Venom game that would serve as a spin-off from the Marvel’s Spider-Man series. At the time, the leak revealed that Insomniac Games was planning to release it in 2025. Obviously, this is not happening as there is still no official word that the PS5 game even exists, let alone is imminent, but we do have a new unofficial update.
The new unofficial details come from Redacted Guy on X, who claims that the game is — or at least was — far along in development, with a completed combat system, a completed traversal system, and a completed story. To the final point, it is claimed that motion capture and dialogue by Tony Todd were also done. And all of this makes sense if the game was supposed to release in 2025.
Possibly Cancelled
Adding to this, the Marvel insider notes that the major leak may have led to its cancellation, as the game was “small enough” that PlayStation and Insomniac Games could do this. The other latest rumor about the game claims otherwise, though. This other rumor claims the leak simply delayed the Insomniac Games’ pipeline, and consequently pushed Marvel’s Venom from 2025 to 2026. The same rumor claims it will be revealed sometime later this year. If this doesn’t happen, though, the possibility that the project was canned has to start to be considered. However, Insomniac Games has also gone dark on Marvel’s Wolverine, so the lack of activity on Marvel’s Venom may not be worth looking too much into, at least not yet.
All of that said, take everything here with a grain of salt. While Redacted Guy has proven reliable at times in the past, his track record, like that of the majority of leakers and insiders, is not perfect. At the moment of publishing, neither Insomniac Games nor PlayStation has commented on this new tidbit. There are a variety of reasons why we do not expect this to change, but if it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly.
As always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation now in the ComicBook Forum. Are you still interested in Marvel’s Venom for PS5, or do you hope it was cancelled in favor of making resources available for other projects?
