Hideo Kojima’s Xbox Horror Game OD Gets Terrifying New Trailer

Hideo Kojima’s new Xbox horror game, OD, has gotten a brand new surprise trailer teasing more of the terrors that lie in store for fans. Hideo Kojima is one of the great video game developers out there, largely known for his strange action/adventure games like Metal Gear Solid and even Death Stranding to an extent. However, fans have always wanted to see Kojima veer into horror. A lot of his games have very eerie and spooky elements that are extremely effective, but none of them are straight up horror. With that said, his time almost came when Hideo Kojima nearly made Silent Hills, a cancelled horror project at Konami.

Fans got a small taste of that project with PT, a demo/proof of concept for what would become Kojima’s Silent Hill game. It was extremely scary and effective, leaving fans yearning for more. It’s one of the great cancelled games, but Kojima is dipping his toes back into horror now. A few years ago, it was confirmed that Hideo Kojima was working on a horror game called OD with Xbox and director Jordan Peele. However, the project has been shrouded in secrecy and seemed to be a lower priority with Death Stranding 2 being the bigger focus for Kojima over the last few years.

Some even began to fear that OD was getting cancelled or going through big changes earlier this year, but that’s not the case. Hideo Kojima debuted a brand new trailer for OD during a recent live event and even brought out Xbox boss Phil Spencer to talk a bit about the game. The new trailer is extremely life-like and is made in Unreal Engine. At a quick glance, especially before you see It actress Sophia Lillis’ face, you may easily mistake it for live-action footage. The footage is incredibly cryptic and features a bunch of mysterious text, some of which is entirely redacted.

We see the character lighting some candles which is surrounded by strange figures and images, including baby figures, a recurring visual from PT and Death Stranding. Some kind of figure eventually enters the room with the female character and even grabs her, squeezing her head while she screams. We still have no real idea what this game is about or when we might be able to play it, but OD does seem to be a big priority for Kojima going forward. Kojima even teased that OD will divide players in the past, though it’s not exactly clear what that means.

As of right now, you can expect to play OD on Xbox and PC, but Phil Spencer suggested they are preparing for players to play it “everywhere”. That could mean a PS5 release will happen, but also even mobile devices. It has been long-rumored that OD would utilize cloud technology, so it’s possible the game will be streamed to various devices.
