Technical issues are an unfortunate part of any live event, and even for those as experienced and on top of things as the WWE team, things still unfortunately go wrong from time to time. While most of the show went off without a hitch, that wasn’t the case during the entrance of the American Nightmare Cody Rhodes, as Rhodes and the crowd were both surprised by a key part of his entrance not going according to plan. You can watch it play out below.
Rhodes was set for a confrontation with Seth Rollins ahead of their match at Crown Jewel, which will be for the Crown Jewel Championship. Before the confrontation got started in the ring, Rhodes hit his trademark entrance, which has become a huge fan favorite since Rhodes returned to WWE. In this case though, something was clearly missing, and it was so glaring that Rhodes, the fans, and the commentary team all noticed it (via @Fightful).
As Rhodes hit the signature “whooaaa” moment of the entrance, the crowd continued to sing along. Then it was time for Rhodes to hit the next big moment of the entrance, which is where all of the big pyro launches before he starts moving towards the ring. Unfortunately, as you can see in the video above, that never actually happened, and everyone was looking up, waiting for it to finally go off.
Rhodes could be seen looking around puzzled, clearly giving it a second to finally kick in, but it never did. That’s when he just gave up and continued interacting with the fans, which was followed by commentary chiming in. Wade Barrett would address the random vanishing of the pyro, saying, “No pyro, no problem.”
Back to Back

Having your pyro not launch on an entrance is more funny than an actual problem, but it happens to be at a time right after a much-discussed ending to SmackDown, which didn’t land as planned either. That was a far bigger deal due to it being the finish of a match as opposed to just an issue with an entrance, but WWE would obviously prefer not to have either issue occur, especially on live TV.
The SmackDown moment happened during the WWE Women’s Championship match between Tiffany Stratton, Nia Jax, and Jade Cargill, which also saw Cargill busted open during the match. Then Stratton would push her out of the way and attempt to steal the pin on Jax, but Jax was clearly not kicking out of the pin at 3, which seemed to be the plan, given that the referee then did her best to hide it and deliver a 2-count.
That was not well-received by the crowd, but thankfully, the match didn’t last too much longer, and it ended with Stratton taking the win. Now, Stratton will face WWE World Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer at Crown Jewel, and between that match and Rhodes vs. Rollins, WWE fans are in for two standout battles in the ring. We just hope everything else goes smoothly the next time around.
