Major spoilers for Dexter: Resurrection Episode 9 are contained in this article. Dexter: Resurrection‘s latest death won’t fix anything for Dexter, unfortunately. Dexter is obviously no stranger to death. He’s a notorious serial killer who has taken hundreds of lives over the last 30-ish years, which has often cost him dearly. Despite his incredibly self destructive habits, Dexter is still in the business of vigilantism. These affairs have gotten his wife, sister, and friends killed on multiple occasions, but he’s addicted to murder and has an unquenchable thirst for blood, so he keeps going. Attempts to abstain failed and only made things worse, so he’s in an endless loop of chaos.
With all of that said, things have gone shockingly smooth for the bulk of Dexter: Resurrection. There have been obstacles to overcome, but Dexter has handled them with relative ease. His son is now back in his life and their relationship is slowly but surely being repaired back into a healthy state, Dexter’s taking down bad guys again, and he’s managed to keep the NYPD’s attention off of him and his family for the most part. However, the one variable that fans have known would be a problem is Batista. Dexter’s old friend has been investigating him since the end of Dexter: New Blood and Dexter: Resurrection has been building to their final showdown for weeks.
Angel Batista’s Death Could Create Major Issues in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2

Dexter: Resurrection Episode 9, appropriately titled “Touched by an Angel”, concludes the Dexter vs. Batista storyline… but it won’t fix anything for the titular killer. At the end of the most recent episode, Batista attempts to warn Leon Prater that Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher and is going to make an attempt on his life. Prater sees this as an opportunity and presents Batista to Dexter on a silver platter in his vault. Realizing he doesn’t have much of a choice, Dexter raises his blade above Batista… but frees him, hoping that they will be able to take down Prater and Charley together. That goes pretty south and Batista is shot and killed by Prater who locks Dexter in the vault.
Of course, Dexter is distraught that a good man like Angel Batista got caught in the crossfire, but some fans may see this as a resolution to the problem. Unfortunately, it does anything but. For starters, Batista has been recording everything via voice memos regarding evidence, patterns, and revelations made in his case against Dexter. His hotel room is plastered with pictures, maps, and documents about all of this as well. Whether Dexter disposes of Batista’s body or is able to pin this on Prater somehow remains to be seen, but either way, it’s unlikely his death/disappearance will be looked over. Either Detective Wallace will look into it and set up her motivations for next season or this will be a way to bring Joey Quinn into Dexter: Resurrection in a prominent role.
Even if Batista’s phone is destroyed, his recordings could be backed up on a computer at Batista’s hotel along with all of the other physical evidence that is unknown and inaccessible to Dexter. If anything, Batista’s death will likely only create more problems in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 rather than solve the matter. It’s a troubling situation for Dexter and could put him in a tough bind that is impossible to get out of in future seasons.
As of right now, the writers have mapped out three seasons of Dexter: Resurrection, but there could be more. Given they’ve already killed him and let him get away in other endings, would it shock anyone if Dexter finally got thrown in prison? Would that be a satisfying ending after all of these years? It’s tough to say, but it seems like Dexter will probably contend with the law some more in the future.
