Insidious: Out of the Further Trailer Introduces a New Chapter of Horror

Lin Shaye in Insidious

Since 2010, the Insidious franchise has been one of the most prevalent film series in the horror genre. Though the five movies released to date have an uneven track record in terms of critical reception (the original film’s Rotten Tomatoes score of 66% is the franchise’s all-time high), they’ve all done extremely well at the box office. Collectively, the Insidious movies have brought in over $731 million worldwide, giving filmmakers all the incentive they need to keep the series going. Insidious returns this summer with the release of Insidious: Out of the Further, and now fans have been treated to their first look at the movie.

Today, the first trailer for Insidious: Out of the Further was released as part of Sony’s CinemaCon panel in Las Vegas. Here it is:

Sony also revealed a new poster for the upcoming horror sequel, which lands in cinemas on August 21, 2026.

Insidious Out of the Further

Out of the Further Could Push Insidious Towards a Huge Box Office Milestone

Written and directed by Jacob Chase, Out of the Further is a direct sequel to 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door and is the sixth installment of the franchise, which has already grossed over $730 million. The last two instalments have actually made more money than the original trilogy: The Last Key made $170m (while Chapter 3 made $120m), and The Red Door took just under $190m. If Out of the Further performs similarly, the franchise will creep towards a cumulative $1 billion take, against a very modest production budget well under $100m. It’s no wonder these movies keep getting made.

Out of the Further stars Amelia Eve and Brandon Perea, with Lin Shaye reprising her role from the previous Insidious films as Elise Rainier. The story follows young single mother Gemma (Eve), who discovers she can travel into The Further and also bring what lives there back to the real world. Naturally, she becomes targeted by evil spirits and demons who plan to use her powers for evil.
