Most details about the upcoming Elden Ring movie, directed by Alex Garland, are being kept very close to the chest. We know Garland is at the helm, and A24 and Bandai Namco are producing it. Outside of that, details are scant, but it’s safe to assume that several bosses from the hit game will make an appearance, no matter what direction the film takes. Below are my six picks for characters that should feature in the Elden Ring movie.
I’ve tried to pick a wide swathe of bosses to give the film more variety. The aim for the filmmakers should be to deliver sheer spectacle alongside more intimate fights that could help move the story forward. It’s also worth noting that I’m going under the assumption that Garland and his team will try to adapt Elden Ring. There’s a possibility that they could dig deep into the game’s lore and tell a story before the events of Elden Ring, but I’m working under the assumption that this is, more or less, a straight adaptation.
6) Godrick the Grafted

Just as he does in Elden Ring the game, Godrick should serve as one of the first big fights in the film. He’s a great setup for the rest of the story. Godrick looks intimidating, especially when he grabs that dragon’s head.
You later find out he’s kind of a weakling compared to the other demigods, but Godrick’s fight would give the filmmaker a flashy way to begin the story. He’s big and bombastic, but he’s easily overshadowed later.
5) Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy

Rykard’s inclusion is kind of cheating. Really, I want a section featuring the entire Volcano Manor as a subplot. It’s one of the best sequences in the game and would give the film a side quest to chew on.
Plus, entering Rykard’s lair and fighting the massive snake-like beast is a great way to show off the scale of Elden Ring. It’s pretty safe to say the movie is going to have some CG challenges for the boss fight sequences. And Rykard is going to be the most difficult, if not impossible. Humanoid enemies will probably be less of a technical struggle than a snake with a human face. Anything that weird is going to take an awful lot in the execution to not look a little silly on screen. But, if they can pull it off, Rykard’s boss fight would be a joy to see on-screen.
4) Mohg, Lord of Blood

I’ll be honest, I am a bit of a Mohg fanboy. He’s one of my favorite fights in Elden Ring, though he ultimately proves to be a pawn in the larger scheme during the events of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
Still, he’s a disgusting, massive foe, who weilds a relatively unique weapon with his trident. In his second phase, he gets even more terrifying, growing wings and inflicting tons of blood loss magic. It’s a great fight that would translate well to the big screen.
3) Starscourge Radahn

I said I wanted spectacle, and it doesn’t get much more spectacular than Starscourge Radahn. This guy is huge (though his horse is somehow not), and the arena you fight him in would look excellent on film.
On top of that, it’s one of the few fights in Elden Ring where it feels like you’re building an army to take him on. This fight is iconic, so it’s going to be included, but it’s worth noting that this is one of the few times the filmmakers can build side characters during a battle, and it reflects the game.
2) Malenia, Blade of Miquella

For many fans, this is the fight in Elden Ring. It’s a one-on-one battle that most people lose their first (or 400th) time. It’s one of the biggest tests of skill in the entire game, and the beautiful dance of death could look incredible on the big screen.
The one potential issue I can see is some executive forcing Garland into shoehorning a joke about Let Me Solo Her into the fight. Look, it’s a great meme that was ridiculously popular during Elden Ring‘s early days, but if the film wants to be taken seriously, let’s leave those jokes to the internet.
1) Radagon of the Golden Order

With how much lore is stuffed into Elden Ring (not to mention the hundreds of boss fights), I wouldn’t be surprised to see the film turned into a series, but if you want to keep it to a single movie, Radagon has to be the final fight. He is Queen Marika’s consort, though we later learn they are essentially now one person. In the events of the game, he’s the strongest character you face, and his fight eventually sees you fighting the Elden Beast, the true form of the titular Elden Ring.
If you’re making a movie about the game, he has to be in there. Personally, I don’t love the Radagon fight, but I have to acknowledge his importance to the story. No matter your thoughts on him as a boss fight, he is a must-have character who will likely serve as the climax to whatever tale Garland and his team create.
