An Xbox One and Xbox Series X game that just released this year is free to play until October 5. After this, those on Xbox will need to buy the game outright to continue to play it, which will cost $14.99 to facilitate. This is obviously a small window, but there is no campaign to beat or story to see from start to finish, as the game in question is a multiplayer game. In other words, this should be a sufficient amount of time with the title to discern if it is worth a purchase or not.
The free Xbox game is a smaller release from April of this year called Polterguys: Possession Party. Developed by Madorium and published by Amplified Games, the multiplayer game has seemingly flown under the radar the whole year, as evidenced by its low number of user reviews across various platforms. That said, on Steam, it does have an 85% approval rating, with reviews claiming it is simple but fun, especially for families. Meanwhile, negative reviews of the game cite a lack of content and poor game balance.
About the Game
For those just learning about Polterguys: Possession Party, in it you play as mischievous ghosts who can possess everyday objects to gain special powers. Your goal is to get your opponents caught by a raging monster, sacrificing them as you navigate different spooky maps.
Of course, finding seven other people to play with isn’t always easy to do; however, matches will fill with bots if this is a problem. That said, there probably will never be a better time to find people to play this game with than this weekend, while it is free on Xbox.
“Absolutely loving it. Even playing with the bots is entertaining, but obviously playing with a group of friends and getting to sabotage each other is an even greater laugh,” reads one of the aforementioned user reviews.
Another user review adds: “Looks like Mario Kart had a baby with Dead by Daylight loopers, and they have the personality of a chaotic party game, like Gang Beasts and Witch It!”
While this offer comes via the Xbox Free Play Days promotion, it does not require Xbox Game Pass like most of the deals through this promotion. That said, if this doesn’t tickle your fancy, another free Xbox game — one of the most played on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X 10 years after its release — may do the trick.
