Rocket Raccoon made his big return in Marvel Comics in 2025 in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man, as he tries to help Peter Parker make it back home to Earth after his abduction. However, when looking at all the superhero animals in Marvel, Rocket isn’t the strongest, even though he has the skills to make even the Avengers look weak when he gives it a try. There have been animals in Marvel since the early days, as the company has attempted to show that the actual animals are just as important as the superheroes and villains who use their traits to define their own personas.

From sidekick animal superheroes in Marvel Comics to those who can easily stand on their own, here is a look at the most powerful Marvel animals who can make even members of the Avengers look weak.

10) Tippy-Toe

Squirrel Girl’s tag line is that she is unbeatable. However, she doesn’t do it alone, and she has plenty of little squirrels helping her every step of the way. This includes Tippy-Toe, who is the leader of her squirrel army. With Tippy-Toe, Squirrel Girl has defeated Doctor Doom and Thanos and even brought Galactus to his knees in the name of friendship.

Tippy-Toe is an Eastern grey squirrel and is Squirrel Girl’s most constant companion. As for her superpowers, she has the ability of a common squirrel and is a big fan of nuts. Tippy-Toe might not seem like much, but she is just as responsible as Squirrel Girl for many of their victories.

9) Bats the Ghost Dog

Bats is a sad dog because he was just a regular basset hound whose owner died of a heart attack, and he ended up left at a shelter when he was 16. When Stephen Strange became a veterinarian after losing his Sorcerer Supreme title, he took Bats into his care and then enchanted the dog so that it could speak to him in English. Sadly, Loki attacked Doctor Strange, and when Bats tried to help, he had a heart attack and died.

After Loki and Strange finished their battle, Loki helped return Bats to Strange as a ghost dog. Bats’ primary power is a translation spell, which allows him to communicate with people, and he also possesses the ability to inhabit other people’s bodies. He is also a good dog and is loved by everyone, including Wolverine.

8) Jeff the Land Shark

Jeff the Land Shark has become one of the most beloved animal characters in Marvel Comics, thanks to his solo series and his appearance in games like Marvel Rivals. He is a land shark that MODOK created, but refused to be evil. Instead, Gwenpool adopted him when she was a member of the West Coast Avengers.

He became a beloved companion to everyone, from Kate Bishop to Elsa Bloodstone and even Emma Frost. Jeff is extremely intelligent, but has the basic powers of a land shark. He used to have optic blast powers when he swallowed a magical stone, but he lost them when he regurgitated it.

7) Howard the Duck

Howard the Duck is an anthropomorphic duck from another dimension. He was initially from Duckworld, which is Earth-791021. He was displaced from his homeworld, though, when Thog the Nether-Spawn used his powers to dislodge him from that dimension, and he ended up on Earth-616, where he settled in and became a private detective.

Over his time in Marvel Comics, he has worked with various heroes, including Spider-Man and Rocket Raccoon, with whom he has an intense rivalry. He is also someone who has antagonized the government so much that, around the time of the Civil War, they decided he didn’t exist. As for his powers, he has superspeed and reflexes, and has even learned a bit of the mystic arts from Doctor Strange himself. He is also a master of Quack Fu.

6) Lockheed

Lockheed is where the Marvel Comics animal heroes really take a massive leap in power levels. Lockheed is a dragon that the Brood captured, and the X-Men helped save. He returned to Earth with Kitty Pryde and became her close companion. He has helped the X-Men on many occasions and has always been there to aid Kitty when she needed assistance. His powers are pretty devastating.

In addition to being able to fly and possessing superhuman durability, Lockheed can also breathe fire in either concentrated streams or wide blasts. He is also able to withstand the dangers of fire and has been shown to survive in lava. He can also understand any language spoken to him and possesses empathy powers, allowing him to sense the emotions of others. Lockheed is little, but he packs a massive punch.

5) Spider-Ham

Spider-Ham has the powers of a spider, just like Spider-Man on Earth-616. Peter Porker lives on Earth-8311, an Earth where anthromorphic animals represent the human heroes of Earth-616. He was actually born a spider and was bitten by an irradiated pig named May Porker, and turned into a pig like May.

Spider-Ham possesses the same powers as Spider-Man, which are impressive and powerful, as he is tied to the spider totem. However, he has a power Spider-Man doesn’t have, known as Spider-Nonsense. This is a power that makes him more of a cartoon character when he gets into great danger, and as with cartoon characters, nothing can really harm him at these moments.

4) Rocket Raccoon

Rocker Raccoon is one of the most famous Marvel Comics animal heroes, thanks to his part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, there is so much more to Rocket than the MCU movies. While the modern-day Guardians of the Galaxy are one of Marvel’s most overrated teams in the comics, Rocket is right up there with Star-Lord as the most interesting member of the team.

While Star-Lord needs Nova to remain interesting, Rocket is great no matter what series he is in, as he has shown in his appearances with Howard the Duck and his reappearance with Spider-Man in 2025. As an enhanced raccoon, he has raccoon senses, enhanced intelligence, strength, durability, reflexes, and more. He is also a master of most weapons, a skilled marksman, and a brilliant tactician and military strategist.

3) Devil Dinosaur

Devil Dinosaur is a displaced dinosaur from Earth-78411, which is Dinosaur World, the home of Moon-Boy. He is best known as the companion of Moon-Girl, and the two heroes have a mental connection that allows them to communicate with each other. Devil Dinosaur possesses human-level intelligence, complemented by superhuman strength and the durability of a giant dinosaur.

He is also quite scary, with a mouth full of shark teeth, although he is mostly a kind and gentle beast to his friends. Thanks to his time on Earth, he is also a master tactician. With Moon-Girl, he is even a member of the new Avengers Academy, and they are two of the team’s strongest members.

2) Lockjaw

Lockjaw is a pet of the Inhumans Royal Family, and he is one of the oldest Marvel Comics animal characters, debuting with the rest of the Inhumans in Fantastic Four #45 in 1965. The Inhumans experimented on dogs, and when he was born, he had developed mutated powers, the only member of his litter to gain any. His power is teleportation, and he has developed a strong connection with both Black Bolt, his King, and Crystal, with whom he has become a close companion over the years.

His teleportation powers are immense, and he has been able to teleport himself and others as far as 240,000 miles (Earth to the moon). In the current Imperial storyline, he teleported Black Bolt to where the Grandmaster was playing the game. He also possesses a tracking sense through his sense of smell, allowing him to track beings across dimensional space.

1) Throg

Throg is Simon Walterson, a former Earth frog who gained the powers of Thor thanks to getting a sliver of Mjolnir. He then used this power to aid his frog clans in battling the rats in New York City. While this is a small-scale war, Throg was also transported to Asgard and has helped battle even greater threats alongside Thor. While he isn’t as powerful as Thor, Throg is still more powerful than many heroes, even the Avengers, when he utilizes the power of Frogjolnir.
